SCARS TO PROVE IT.

by Aaron Douglas

“You hope they sail whatever sea of words you let trickle from your mouth whilst giving them nothing but the vague instructions on how to build a boat.”

An abstract exploration of grief, loss, biracial identity and what makes us human.

When a tragedy in the family shakes their foundations, those left standing are forced to recover and rediscover the bonds that held them together.

“Scars To Prove It' gives us an insight into the interweaving lives of Len & Esther, Dominic & Violet and Kay & T. There is much to enjoy in this play… crafted [into] something that suits the form well but also pushes boundaries. The different forms (cassette tapes, phone conversations and social media cues) all reflect the age of the different characters and offer lots of exciting creative possibilities. The script is really well put together and it made for a truly engaging read.”

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK

“… slyly obsessed with the spoken word pieces! It was gorgeous!”
ALICE STRAKER

“A poetic yet very real exploration of the ways we grieve, and struggle to communicate to those we love… beautifully written... I was both laughing out loud and aching for each character’s struggles. The play’s attention to detail and relatability had me journey from a pleasant chuckle to a feeling of emotional unease, and back again.”
SAM WOODHOUSE

“…there’s a lot of dark humour, that I was stiffling a laugh at… so much light and shade… subtext is king.”
STANLEY WALTON
